black slit house – japan
i’ve seen a lot of these types of designs coming up in japan over the past couple years. seems the modern look is really taking off over there, with many houses pushing the boundaries of architecture on particularly small lots. if you still haven’t seen the parking stall house, check that out. but this house in particular has a ton of really interesting features. the facade is all black, and that is contrasted inside with a use of big and slit style windows to allow ample natural light into the space. also, the darker materials have been carried through into the interiors but are contrasted as well by the use of lighter stones and fittings. the one idea i love is the entrance opens into a long, dark corridor of closets, which then opens to a living space and a kitchen. upstairs there are more rooms, a terrace, another kitchen and another living area. all in all, it has the look of a modern home with again the space saving options that seem to be really taking off in japan specifically. it is quite a beautiful building, considering it still checks in at about 2152 sqft. check out the rest of the pictures after the break, courtesy of three.ball.cascade. for the rest of the images head over to archdaily.
